Understand the approach of holistic care childhood diseases.discuss the preventable childhood diseases,
Identity the needs of the child at different stages of growth and developme
Identify the important of play for child
Content:
Primary child care (growth and development, play nutrition, vaccination
child needs, common child accidents at different age, epidemiology is
relation to children).
Holistic approach management of childhood diseases.
Preventable childhood diseases (measles, poliomyelitis, tetanus,
tuberculosis, whooping cough, chicken pox and diphtheria) this include
causative agents, signs and symptoms, management nursing
prevention (vaccination).
Practical training in:
MCH centres for primary child care.
Kinder garden.

Course description :This course is designed for developing of an
understanding identification, prevention and nursing management of common
problems of children.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to:-
Understand, explain, and describe the care of the child suffering
from following disease; (Surgical conditions. Emergency conditions.
Respiratory system, Digestive system. Urinary system, Malnutrition.
Blood, Skin, Ear, nose & throat, Nervous system, Endocrine system).

child and identify the abnormalities.
Demonstrate ability to provide health education to parents.
Demonstrate ability to assess and provide nursing care for child during
various therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Theoretical teaching on:
Unit=1
-Introduction
Definition of terminology.
History taking; physical examinations; health maintenance
Unit 2
-Principles of child care
Review anatomy and physiology, causes, clinical manifestations,
investigation &diagnostic procedure, and management nursing care for
child suffering from the following:-
Unit3 Diseases of respiratory system
pneumonias, allergies, asthma, chest infection, bronchitis, respiratory
failure and mechanical ventilation, and oxygen therapy.
Unit 4 -Diseases of digestive system
- stomatitis, gastroenteritis worms, dysenteries, diarrhoea and dehydration
Unit-5-Diseases of urinary system
congenital, pyelonephritis, nephritic syndrome, stones, renal failure
Unit 6 Heart diseases
congenital HD. rheumatic HD, heart failure and cardiopulmonary
resuscitation.
Unit 7-Malnutrition
Marasmus, kawashikour
Unit S Blood diseases
-Anemia Jeukemia bleeding disorders and hemophilia)
Unit 9- Endocrine diseases
diabetes mellitus, thyroid, adrenal and pituitary disorders
Unit 10-Diseases of nervous system
-convulsions, epilepsy, meningitis, coma, paralysis and handicaps

-allergies, eczema, skin infection bacterial, protozoa, and fungal infection

Unit 13 Pediatrics surgery
- Congenital anomalies (cleft palate and hare lip, imperforated urinar
meatus, imperforated anus, club foot, intestinal abstraction, undesigning
testis, malignant tumours).
- Nursing care and management of (pre, intra & post-operative) care for
child going for surgical intervention.
B/Practical training in:
Hospital paediatric wards (medical, surgical, nutritional unit and
emergency unit, neonatal unit).
