SPECIALTY OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGICAL NURSING (1)

This course is designed to prepare students to advancing their specialty knowledge and be more competent and able to apply nursing care for selected pregnancy and gynecology proficiently, offered health promotion and maintenance, rehabilitation, ethic and continuity of care are emphasized.
By the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:
1. Define the theory, method and practice of nursing relating to normal pregnancy.
2. Discuss the theory, method and practice of nursing relating to abnormal pregnancy, and women requiring specialized care in connection with a complicated pregnancy, as well as obstetrics complications.
3. Discuss preconception and prenatal counseling,
4. General pharmacology and medications, including specific pharmaceuticals and the medication of pregnant women, women in labor, women who have just given birth and newborns; Intensive nursing and care, anesthesia and analgesia, and anesthesiologic practice in the maternity
5. Assessment of women with Gynecological disorders.
6. Describe methods of contraception and role of nurse in family welfare program.
7. Describe the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestation, diagnostic measures, treatment modalities and nursing management of patients with gynecologic problems, across lifespan.
8. Ethics, including the values and ethical dilemmas peculiar to the profession besides to the legal foundation of the practice.
